LENTERA.PRESS, Makassar – Pengurus Cabang Pergerakan Mahasiswa Islam Indonesia (PC PMII) Kota Makassar secara tegas menyatakan penolakan terhadap wacana pengembalian sistem pemilihan kepala daerah (Pilkada) melalui Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD).
Sekretaris Umum PC PMII Kota Makassar, M. Aulady, menilai bahwa wacana tersebut merupakan langkah mundur bagi demokrasi Indonesia dan mencederai semangat reformasi yang telah diperjuangkan sejak lama.
“Kami dari PMII Kota Makassar menyatakan sikap menolak keras wacana Pilkada dipilih melalui DPRD. Ini bukan sekadar perubahan teknis pemilihan, melainkan bentuk perampasan hak konstitusional dan kedaulatan yang seharusnya berada sepenuhnya di tangan rakyat,” tegas Aulady dalam keterangan persnya di Makassar, [Rabu,31 Desember 2025 ].
Menurut Aulady, jika pemilihan kepala daerah ditarik kembali ke ranah legislatif, maka partisipasi publik dalam menentukan masa depan daerahnya akan hilang. Ia mengkhawatirkan loyalitas kepala daerah nantinya tidak lagi berpihak pada rakyat, melainkan kepada elit partai politik yang memilihnya.
“Pilkada langsung adalah panggung bagi rakyat untuk menilai dan memilih langsung pemimpin mereka. Jika mekanisme ini dihapus, maka kepala daerah yang lahir nantinya hanya akan menjadi ‘boneka’ kepentingan elit legislatif. Kontrak sosial dengan rakyat akan terputus,” lanjutnya.
Lebih lanjut, M. Aulady juga menyoroti risiko meningkatnya politik transaksional di ruang-ruang tertutup jika Pilkada diserahkan kepada DPRD. Menurutnya, argumen efisiensi anggaran tidak boleh dijadikan alasan untuk mengorbankan kualitas demokrasi.
“Jangan jadikan alasan biaya mahal untuk membunuh demokrasi. Jika ada kekurangan dalam Pilkada langsung, sistemnya yang diperbaiki, bukan hak pilih rakyat yang dihapus. Kami di PMII Makassar akan terus mengawal isu ini dan memastikan suara rakyat tidak dibungkam oleh kepentingan segelintir elit,” tutup Aulady.
PC PMII Kota Makassar berencana akan melakukan konsolidasi lebih lanjut dengan berbagai elemen masyarakat sipil dan mahasiswa lainnya untuk menyuarakan penolakan ini secara lebih masif jika wacana ini terus digulirkan di tingkat pusat
